Alternative Methods for Selecting Essences
The following are alternative methods for choosing flower and vibrational essences. We suggest you use the method that most resonates for you. While we are considering creating questionnaires for all our essence categories, we have found through the years that these do not always help in selecting the essence that a person truly needs at a given time. While questionnaires can be helpful in narrowing down a few essences that may be applicable, we highly recommend that you always follow your inner guidance when choosing and working with essences! There may be a deeper issue that needs to be cleared that your intuition is aware of and thus guiding you to use a different essence than your conscious mind believes you should be using. These methods are guidelines only and we suggest you adapt them to suit your own needs. Working with these methods is also designed to help you enhance your intuitive abilities as well as enhancing the connection between you and your own guides and totems.
Totem Method
If you do not know your Totems, please refer to Ted Andrews wonderful book Animal Wise.
First use what your preferred method is for calling in your totem.
Once you have called your totem in explain to it that you are asking it to help you choose the proper essences(s) for whatever issue you are working on at this time.
If you have three choices or less write each down on a piece of paper and lay them out in front of you. Now close your eyes and focus on your totem. Watch as your totem investigates each essence choice. Which if any of the three, does your totem linger over or seem especially interested in? You may at this point see an image in your mind of the essence in it's stock bottle and your totem rubbing up against it or even knocking it over, trying to open it! Your totem may also try to push two or more essence bottle together, indicating that a blend of these is needed.
If you have more than three choices, repeat the above procedures until your totem has helped you choose the proper essences.
If your totem choose none of the essences you had listed, sit quietly and ask your totem to give you some sign or indication what issues may be appropriate for you to be working on at this time. It may be that your totem is trying to tell you that something different needs to be addressed first. Ask your totem for a message. You may receive a symbol, the scent of a flower or a feeling tone that gives you the answer. From there you can go back through a list of essences and see which ones apply to what your totem has advised you to address. Always be sure to Thank your totem when you have finished!
Messages from the Devas
Sit with your list or bottles of essences. Focusing on the name of one essence at a time, ask the deva of that essence if it is appropriate for you at this time. Sit quietly, pen and paper at the ready and write down what you "hear" as you ask the devas for guidance. Do not censor anything, just write down anything that comes to your mind. If you get a "yes" response to an essence, ask if it is to be used alone or in conjunction with another essence. If the answer is "alone" you may then ask how many drops for how many days as well as for suggestions on other supportive measures you can take. Remember to keep your mind open and do not censor any messages you are receiving! The more you trust the process and practice it, the more guidance you will receive.
If the message is to combine the first essence with others then go through your list of essences or bottles on hand. With each essence being focused upon ask if this is the appropriate one. Ask for a clear yes or no answer. Continue on until you reach the end of your list. Now you can ask each deva how many drops of each essence to use and also for how many days the blend should be taken.

The "Feeling" method
Get out some paper and a pen. If you have a list of essences, choose one to focus on first. As you think of the essence start noting how you are feeling. Do you feel happy? Excited? Relieved? Sad or blue? Do your feel angry or irritated? Any emotion you are feeling especially if it is strong, make a note of it next to the name of the essence. It is important not to censor how you are feeling! Just allow your emotions to be what they are.
After you have repeated this process, note which emotions were the most frequent. Now go back and read the description for those essences. Can you see any relation to what you were feeling and the description of the essence? If you do not, start asking now for further clarification and guidance as there may be a deeper issue that is attempting to surface at this time.
It may be that a so called "negative" emotion such as anger, fear or sadness/depression was most prominent. While none of us enjoy these emotions they are fabulous messengers that something is not working well in our lives and needs to be addressed. If these emotions are intense please do consider seeking out a therapist or healer who can help you work through them. Remember is it a sign of strength, not weakness, to ask for help when we need to.
After determining which emotions were the most prevalent, write down the name of each essence on paper and repeat the process, only this time note which essences bring up the greatest intensity of emotions by putting a tick beside the name. Even if the emotions seem negative stay with them! Focus on each essence in turn and as you do, see if your emotions are beginning to clear or intensify. This may take a few moments so have patience. Usually within 10 - 15 minutes you should begin to notice a shift in how you are feeling. Positive emotions often become more intense and blissful feeling.
You may also get messages such as ' not quite the ticket" or "Yes! This is the one". These then are the essences that are most appropriate for you at this time.
The Solar Plexus Method/Third Eye method
Sit quietly with a bottle of essence or the essence name written on a piece of paper. Now holding the paper or bottle at arms length, begin to bring it slowly towards your solar plexus. Do you feel any resistance to the essence or nothing at all? Set that essence or paper aside and move on to the next. Again draw it slowly in towards your solar plexus area. If the essence is appropriate you may have a feeling of the essence or paper being drawn quite strongly towards your solar plexus or feel a rush of energy or excitement in this area of the body. If your stomach begins to feel upset, stay with this as long as you can and see if the energy begins to clear. If the feeling persists, this may be your wiser will saying that this essence is not right for you at this time. If it begins to clear, then you can begin the process of asking for guidance if there is a deeper issue that this essence may help you to understand and release.
You can use this same method as above for the Third eye chakra only this time pay attention to any symbols you see in your mind as well as emotions. If you begin to get a headache, stop and wait for several minutes before attempting this procedure again or use the Solar Plexus method instead. A headache may indicate that there are issues that need to be cleared but that you need to proceed slowly. If this is so, you may also get an upset tummy with the Solar Plexus method but it should clear within 3-5 minutes. If it does not, set this essence aside for the time being and retest using one of the above methods after 7 days has passed. This gives your Expanded Self and subconscious time to begin a clearing process that may make it much easier for you to deal with the deeper issues and clear them once you do begin to work with the essences.
